The Need for Pool Fencing

Insufficient  pool fencing is the main cause of drowning among children below five years of age. That's the reason why New South Wales passed several pool fencing  laws that require the construction of child-resistant barriers that depend on when the pool was built and where it is located.

For pools made before August 1990, a barrier is required to restrict access to the pool from the house at all times. For pools made after August 1990 but before July 2010, a fence must be erected to separate the pool from the house. Properties with less than 230 square metres in area, large properties and homes on waterfront properties are exempted from the rule. Pools that are constructed after July 2010 are required to be separated from the house by a fence.

Inflatable pools are not exempted from the pool fencing laws. Owners must surround their inflatable pools with fences. Although some of them are just ankle-deep, still there's a risk of drowning when children are left unsupervised.

Benefits of Pool Fences

The main benefit of pool fences is safety. They help prevent accidents from happening. A good fence can protect the lives of children. It can also prevent the accidental drowning of pets in the pool.

Pool fences also beautify the pool area. There are several options on the market that you can choose from. You should choose one that goes well with the overall design of your house.

Pool fences provide more privacy when your family is using the pool. There are people who don't want others to see them while they are swimming. A fence can serve as a barrier to keep the pool area away from prying eyes.

Security is another benefit that the pool fences have to offer. They keep people out of your property, and no one can get in the pool without your permission.

Tips for Choosing the Right Pool Fencing

When choosing a pool fence, make sure it has the right height. It must be at least 1.2 metres above the ground and the gap at the bottom is not more than 10 cm from the ground. Taller fences are better at keeping people out of the pool area.

The materials of the fence must be durable and high quality. It must be strong enough to prevent bending or breaking. They must be able to withstand wear and tear of being near water all the time. There are several materials to choose from. The most popular ones are wood, PVC, and aluminium. Be sure to check the pros and cons of each product before making your decision.
